FAQ

WHAT SHOULD I PACK IN MY SWIM BAG? Collapse
  • REUSABLE SWIM DIAPER – these are mandatory if a student is NOT toilet trained or has been toilet trained for less than six months. Students must be double diapered, which includes a disposable and reusable swim diaper. Disposable swim diapers alone do not keep solids from entering the pool. The reusable diaper must pass the two finger test: if 2 fingers can be inserted under the elastic in the legs and waist, the swim diaper is too large and the child will not be permitted in the water. Pods Swimming has reusable swim diapers for sale at the swim school store for $13.
  • GOGGLES (optional) – Pods Swimming has goggles for sale at the swim school store.
  • WETSUIT (optional) – Wetsuits are optional and available for purchase in the Pods Store for $45.
  • FINS (Mandatory for Jr. Squid only) – No scuba fins. Pods Swimming has fins for sale at swim school store for $25.
WHAT IS THE STUDENT TO INSTRUCTOR RATIO? Expand

Cuttlefish classes have six students to 1 head instructor. Nautilus and Octopus levels have four students to one head instructor. Jr. Squid and Giant Squid classes vary from 6 to 16 students to 1 head instructor.

WHERE CAN I WAIT DURING MY CHILD’S SWIM LESSON? Expand

For your convenience and everyone's safety, we ask adults to watch from the designated viewing area. We do not allow parents or guardians on the deck during lessons, as it must remain clear at all times.

After the swim instructor or deck supervisor has checked in your child, head to the viewing area, get comfortable, and relax! We do ask you to remain in this area for the duration of the lesson.

Pods staff will not escort children to the restroom; rather, the instructor will call over the parent to take the child to the restroom.

Parents should not leave the building after dropping off children.

WHAT IF MY CHILD CRIES? Expand

If you see that your child is struggling, you can talk to the front desk and perhaps offer suggestions for how we might engage your child (a favorite superhero, or a favorite animal, for example).

Sometimes it’s best to stay out of sight so as not to distract your child or the rest of the class. Our instructors have a lot of experience with tentative or even upset children, so it is okay to let us handle the situation. However, suggestions are welcome! We will work with you to ensure their experience is a positive one!

WHAT IF MY CHILD MISSES A CLASS? Expand

Please visit our POLICIES page for more information regarding makeup classes.

WHEN WILL MY CHILD BE READY FOR A NAUTILUS I CLASS? Expand

This varies from child to child. A child must be at least 2 and half years old to be in a Nautilus I class. Children who are two and a half years old need to be able to sit and wait their turn and be okay without swimming with a parent in the water. Children aged two and a half and older are required to be in a Nautilus I class. We've found that children older than two and a half years learn best without a parent in the water.

HOW IS THE WATER QUALITY MAINTAINED? Expand

Our filtration system goes above and beyond typical treatment packages found in traditional swim school pools. It was designed with industrial grade controls, filtration, and treatment systems that have been used in the most rigorous Rhode Island municipal pool applications for years. Our UV system has received "EPA approved validation" for performance to assure our patrons protection against waterborne diseases.

WHAT HAPPENS IF MY CHILD HAS TO USE THE RESTROOM? Expand

When your child notifies his or her instructor, the instructor will call over the parent to take the child to the restroom. The instructor cannot leave the deck to take them to the restroom; a parent or guardian must be present to take them.
